Chapter OneA Chapter by DennisChapter oneChapter 1 “I'm leaving for work!” I call to my roommate, Alix. “Kay! See yah when you get back!” Alix called back. I walked out of the apartment, locking the door behind me. I had to leave for my night job, which was halfway across the town and didn't pay that much, but at least I could afford to pay half the rent! I walked down the stairs, in too much of a hurry to wait for the old elevator. “See yah, Randy!” I called to the man at the front desk. Randy was at this place day and night, I'm pretty sure he lived somewhere here. Of course, it was also his job to sit there and watch people come in and out, so he probably had to live here. I raced outside to stand by the side of the road where the bus picks me up. Ten minutes later and late as usual, it arrived. I got on. I sat in the back of the mostly empty bus. It was a long ride to my job. - “Hey, I'm leaving!” I shouted to my boss six hours later. My job was over, it was five in the morning. I was tired and wanted to get home in time for breakfast, which was at 5:30 normally. Then I could go to sleep, hopefully for the rest of the day. “Fine with me!” My boss shouted back. I walked outside and sat down at the busstop. Ten minutes later, I couldn't even hear it. By now, you could usually hear the sounds of it clicking as it drove slowly down the road! I sighed and started walking. Twenty minutes later, I came to another bus stop and waited there for a different bus. This one showed up. At 6:00, I slowly walked into the apartment building. I was tired and wanted lunch. “Hey…” I called tiredly to Randy. “Long night?” “Yeah.. Stupid bus didn't come, either…” “Oh… By the way, your roommate, Alix, was it? Well, your roommate didn't come down to head to work.” “Huh, must have slept in again. Maybe Alix’s alarm didn't go off.” I walked upstairs, ready to wake up Alix. I slowly unlocked the main door to the apartment, walking quietly inside. I looked at the couch- nope, hadn't fallen asleep there. My bed was empty as well. “Alix! You here? Did you jump out the window or get murdered or just fall asleep?” I called as I got closer to my friends room. “Alix….?” I opened the door slowly, ready to see my friend asleep. The alarm clock would either be smashed, or stuffed under a pillow. Instead, my eyes landed on the mangled, bloody body that must have belonged to my best friend. Alix Randall was murdered on June 18. © 2017 Dennis |
