Blue Sky (sestina

Blue Sky (sestina

A Poem by Cherrie Palmer
"

I'm still working on it !!!!!:)

"

The morning sun warms the sky

As blue birds sing to heavens high.

They sing of hope, laced with love

and gaze upon the rising sun.

 Evening moves our minds retrace

as a tender longing, helps us wake.

Perfect smile, helps me wake

As I gaze at the morning sky.

Words you spell and retrace

K-i-s-s-m-e sends my spirit high.

Cheeks blush, as the sherbet sun

and my heart beats with love.

Lonesome dove croons of love

as an eastern wind softly wakes.

A red-tail hawk spheres the sun.

Making idle shapes in the sky

tiny zephyr whips a petal high

and its path I cannot retrace.

Lover, so true I shall retrace

Each moment of our love.

No thought to the sky so high

as your desires wild, I will wake.

Until you blush as the morning sky

and our passion out shines the sun.

Soft hue of day, flash hot the sun.

As acorn trail a squirrel  retrace

He checks for danger in the sky.

A fine spring morning lurks of love

As 2nd squirrel is now a wake.

Dance and tease on limbs up high.

From his perch he climbs up high

and with audacity greets the sun.

Disturbing clouds cross his wake

for fun his path he will retrace.

Blue bird Casanova looks for love

in the valley and into the azure sky.

Gentle embrace, I wake most high

see into sky so blue, fair as the sun.

retrace hands so smooth, that I love.

firstly - bravo for attempting a sestina!! definitely one of the more complicated forms and one that takes such skill and effort! you picked the end words so cleverly that they all fit naturally throughout - more intriguing is the words you've used within the lines to give added effect to the end word - like "sky so high" - it gives them a fresh feeling when they come around again!! brilliant go at one!! nice!

This is amazing! You deserve a good pat on the back for even attempting a sestina, and a round of applause for pulling it off so well. I recently wrote one myself and I know how hard it is to not be reptitive. So, this is just all around awesome! :D

I know nothing about sestina's but what a beautifully worded poem, and you show us just how wonderful our imaginations can be!

A Sestina? Never heard of them! However Wordsworth, Keats and the romantics would have recognised the idylliic rural and ephemeral posy in this piece. This stands on its own merit as a quality romantic poem. Good to see Cherrie back in her pastoral groove.

I know nothing about sestinas, but think this is a fine poem. Obviously a difficult format, you had to have worked very hard on it. You did well.

I thought this was very good write under the restrictions of writing a sestina..
very strong imagery, vivid in details and description....
2 things hurt the poem in my opinion, one is your perrogative..the lack of punctuation which in my mind affected the cadence and made it harder to glide through the poem..
the second, though not mandatory, I also think affects the flow..the rhythm of the poem...it is suggested that each line of the poem be the same length (in syllables) not an easy thing to do...but a lot easier on a finished product .. a miss here and there is fine, but yours are scattered throughout.
Again, it was a well written, expressive write. Each stanza could stand by itself or blends perfectly with the proceeding and following stanza (which is the hard part).
I liked it a lot, Cherrie..
