Daddy & I

Daddy & I

A Poem by Cherrie Palmer

Daddy sit with me on the side of my bed and told me tales of days long past.

He told me how I was grand and would someday be all I ever dreamed.

He rubbed my back and wiped down my head,

whispered a prayer for me at the foot of my bed.

Made me snug as a bug and sang to me till dreams did come.

Now I am grown and have sat on the bed many a time for all of mine.

But I did not know that after mine was grown and I thought I'd be done with tales and songs.

That Daddy and I would once again have a special time right before bed.

As I sit with him on the side of the bed and tell him tales of days long past.

How he has helped each dream of mine. I rub his back and wipe down his head.

Whisper a prayer at the foot of his bed.

Made him snug as a bug and sang to him till dreams did come.

Cherrie,
This is an awesome write; it pulls at my heart so strong! There's nothing like the special moments and love between Father & Daughter.. There's nothing I wanted more than the opportunity to care for my Daddy as he did for me. He came to live with me from out of state and wandered off while I was working and died in the snow.
Thank you for sharing your special time.
Peace

Happy yet sad words, but such is life. Your story sounds much like my own.

This is beautiful. It speaks strongly of the bond a father shares with his daughter (I'm such a daddy's girl, so naturally I love this). The ending is so sad, yet so sweet...
Such a good write.

This reminded me of the children's book "I'll Love You Forever." (Which still chokes me up when I read it.) A very touching poem.

This is an amazing write. As a father in love with his daughter, this brought a serious tear to my eye. I just love it, in such a bittersweet way. Truly beautiful.

That s really sweet... it is the circle of life at its best and undoubtedly that bond one child and parent can know.
