The Dale Below

The Dale Below

A Poem by Cherrie

The fowl blowing of the gale,

shrieks at me from a long forgotten place.

The sun unwilling to reflect,

hides behind a skirted sky.

And in his despair drenched the dale below.

the last line was extremely poignant. upon first reading, i took in the descriptions of the scene (beautifully done) feeling a slight melancholy. while the view is breathtaking, it reminded me of things i didnt have. on a second reading, with the last line in mind, the scenery looks far more sombre. one man is looking out, searching for something. it was a very textural and deep work. a powerful vignette.

You might even need your 🌂
"a skirted sky"---nice metaphor there...and it works so well in that line...
hiding behind the skirt...and the personification of the sun being unwilling.
a few lines, large impact.

Wind and rain, two of my favorite subjects come to the dale. My visits with them have been a bit more than alarming this past year. Hurricane Helene just dumped a busload of both on us. I like the imagery here. F.
