On Rare Occasions

This old feel-good feeling

of cooking in the kitchen

takes me back to a time

when I both cooked and cleaned

while standing on a footstool.

Memories of being -

yes, just being

in the moment.

Times shared with

mother and grandmother

and cousins underfoot.

The echoes of daddy

Laughing just out of sight.

The feeling of forever before me

That feeling remains

Only the truth of it has changed.

That door of time

just swings one way.

However, my dreams

(on rare occasions )

let me peer in the window.

If only for a fleeting instant

and my heart feels young

once more.

Such wonderful memories, ones that lay waiting to be remembered. blissfully held until the next time when a sound or view of something says 'Hello, remember me!?'
