The Curtain of Night

The Curtain of Night

A Poem by Cherrie Palmer
"

Villanelle 19 lines Aba, ab1, ab3, ab1, ab3, ab13

"
"Shall we begin?" asks the Sun.
Casting his light for the Sky to see.
But the curtain of Night still hung.

While fading stars grew sullen.
toward the horizon, the light was carried.
"Shall we begin?" asks the Sun.

I have the Night on the run.
The wafting breeze has found its qi.
But the curtain of Night still hung.

Coy was the wind as to the mist it clung.
Waltzing across both land and sea.
"Shall we begin?" asks the Sun.

Who grew impatient and wanted fun,
and so, he rose, shining over the lea.
But the curtain of Night still hung.

As Night's morning vespers were spun,
thinning to a milky tea.
"Shall we begin?" asks the Sun.
But the curtain of Night still hung.

interesting meter. you've got to pull hard on the cord to part that curtain, of this i am quite certain. a wonderful, skillful, drapery you've drawn ... :)

Thank you Ken 😊
Cherrie,
Lovely words, out in the almost desert where I live, there are many mornings when my back porch wakes up just this way!
If I may suggest? I think staying with one tense might make the flow a little smoother.

Thank you 😊 I agree I'll work on that tonight.
I love when the night overtake the day. The sky a perfect painting.
"As Night's morning vespers were spun,
thinning to a milky tea.
Shall we begin, asks the Sun.
But the curtain of Night still hung."
I loved the above lines. I go to Lake St. Clair in the days of Summer. When the moon and sun kiss over the many trees. Perfection. Thank you dear Cherrie for sharing the amazing poetry.

Now this was very cool, the coming sunrise, the curtain of night, so many moments in a day that I enjoy all found in your very creative and formed piece of art. I really liked this Cherrie.

As a matter of fact I decided to do just that. :)
Speaking of surprise! I thought I'd see what you've been up to and find a Villanelle. A good one too. As brief as sunrise is, a lot is going on in it. And I love how you capture that! And give personality to all the aspects of it. The sun's dance card is full of daily rendezvous with night. I like this poem a lot!

Of course, I'm gonna have to go look up qi and lea, so I might be back with more. Did you consider a question mark after your question?

My favourite time of the day, watching as night slowly lightens and fades into day. It is the most calming of times, where thoughts and inspiration flies and I am now in the habit of being up at silly o'clock in the morning just to watch it, that 8pm is me having a wild night now 😊
And its all free! No premium subscription services involved. Can you imagine how much blander life would be if it just went from night to dark like the flick of a switch?
I really like how you mention the sun asking if we should begin. It leaves me feeling that it has a look on its face like a smiling emoji 😊
