Rise and Shine

Slowly I snaked my arm from beneath the covers,

and hit snooze.

What is ten more minutes?

I ask myself,

 with eyes still closed.

A Friday morning must for one thing.

Time to contemplate the day.

While waiting on the automatic coffee pot.

Dolly my miniature Aussie nudges me.

“Rise and shine sleepyhead,”

I imagine her to say.

groaning at her.

In reply she wines, nudging me once again.

Reminding me that the day pivots around my rising,

so, I do.

I thank the Lord for this new day.

Asking him for grace enough to cover it.

This is so me. This is so relatable. Often, the snooze button seems so welcoming in the morning when one would rather retreat into sleep than face yet another day.
