Onward

A Poem by Cherrie Palmer

I slow my stride,

seeing the paths end.

My friends and love-ones have,

trailed behind.

I simply must see what lies ahead.

Stopping for a moment I ponder.

how long it will take them to catch up?

Then navigate onward.

Mysterious and intriguing Cherrie. Is this a slice of reality or a metaphor for something else ? You leave the question hanging in the air. Excellent ✨️✨️✨️✨️✨️

It is said that we are part of everyone we have loved, every place we go and everything we have learned in the meantime. Perhaps that means we are free to adventure the future but carry past precious memories with us

Your poem sets the mind searching possibilities but - never able to begin a list.

This pretty well describes my attitude when I left my home state of my childhood and parents and brothers, i was labeled as somewhat a black sheep for not sticking around as all members of immediate family did. Had to find my own way. Not all has been a dream but never regretted it. Thanks for the post -carl

I really love this poem. In the past three years I have found myself thinking this so often when I slow my stride to think about it at all. I moved away from my home state during the pandemic of 2020 and many of ny friends felk off here and there because I moved forward against the odds and the stayed in the same spot as always. I felt like this is what is going on here as well. I may be wrong but that is what I read and that is what touched me. And you did ut in so few words...
Thank you for sharing this with us.

I think many of us want to find our eventual end to where we are walking; ....you are the adventurous one who trod at fast pace....but then you realize that you family lags behind... you seem concerned about how far they can go without tire....as we all feel with our elders.....interesting thought....
Best, B

This is so cool. I wrote a poem recently titled "Forward"... same concept and reflection. Sometimes I think there is one muse for all and it travels around visiting every poet. At any rate I think shared inspiration is a wonderful thing. There's nothing better than feeling empathy and confirmation of shared humanity. I enjoyed the read.

we cannot wait for others to dictate our path, to influence...sooner or later we break out on our own and lead.

This almost feels like a continuation of the poem you posted earlier today. I really like this, it feels fresh and free and wonderful. Such a positive vibe flows with this piece.
