The Silent Song of Life

The Silent Song of Life

A Poem by Cherrie Palmer

Wafting shadows
rise and spread.
Forming our nightly cover.
This velvety cloak,
swaddles the land.
Festooned with stars asunder.
Stitched with Heaven’s silver.
The twinkling lights lull. Giving comfort to all at rest.
As Luna’s silent song,
settles like freshly fallen snow. Caressing both soil and soul.
The anticipation of life, awakens.
As Day reaches for Night.
Throwing back her covers;
to continue
the silent song of life.

What beautiful words, what an all-giving poem, Cherrie. I could take quite a few favourite phrases but.. think it best to say this is one of the most heaveny and peaceful pieces of writing I've read in the Cafe over
many years.

' The anticipation of life, awakens.
As Day reaches for Night.
Throwing back her covers;
to continue
the silent song of life.

That is so true at every waking, we should think of that as personal treasure throughout each and every day. Many, many thank yous, dear lady.

It's a good write I had to come back
Life can have many voices; some whispers, others loud as thunder. There is music in the orbs and spheres that form our planetary system. The man in the moon sings to the sea. She hears whether we can interpret the song or not. The pull of gravity is a great romance holding our feet to the earth. Perhaps the song of snow is silent symmetry but falling in the whispering cloud is a song beyond the mere eloquence of sound. "The silent song of life". I love it.

Luna is an award winning artist. I think she won best silent performance as well as brightest orb in the night sky. I really like that idea of caressing both soil and soul. So nicely alliterative and true.

:) Thank you Pete
dearest Cherrie... I slept by my Mother's Bed in the Hospital for several days before she took her last breath... as I felt Life leave her body by holding her soft and nurturing hand. Her Spirit and Life that had been so generously shared with me... was on a Journey that we all will take at a future time. My Mother was only fifty-eight when she passed. Someday... I too will take that Journey being wrapped in swaddling clothes. Your Poem describes Birth with the Gift of swaddling clothes.... kissed by the phases of the New Moon. God gave us the Passion of Life to enjoy and share. tenderly, Pat

I love how you found a functional way to use the word swaddle.
