Nails on wood

Nails on wood

A Poem by Cherrie Palmer

The depths of night broken with the t, t, t, t, of nails on wood,
and a cold nose met the bottom of my dangling foot.
Quickly followed by the slight rattling of a lid,
and the gurgling sputter of the percolator.

On the heels of sound raced the delightful aroma of coffee.
Knowing good and well this means morning Dolly my Australian Shepperd whined.
A faint rumble grew in the distance as the spatter of rain tapped on the window.

Warm covers were applied from my chin covering the top of my head, and I reveled in the warmth.

The crackling of lightning cracked and boomed. That and the dog demanded me arise.

Nice Work Cherrie and you suit the journal style definitely. 'Write what you know' is one of the first things I learned in this game. Very evocative and real.

I like this style of writing. Both for reading and creating. It is simple and intimate.
