Stranger to Me

Stranger to Me

A Poem by Cherrie Palmer

I know what to do
And
I know what to say
But
The day is now over
And
Our love has frayed.

So
Dry up your tears
And
Save up your pleas.

For
No longer will I cash them
For
Your love to redeem.

You are a stranger to me
And
I - a- stranger to me.

Not
Knowing that girl
Who
Chased you for her world.

No longer lovers
And
No longer friends.
But
A stranger before me
With
a memory shared.

This was poignant and filled with longing; a remembrance, a wish that things could have been different, perhaps. So often in life we lose touch with others or they lose the connection of things that drew us together in the first place. People can be every bit as complex as life itself, though. On a technical note, your title has a typo and is missing its "r". I enjoyed the read.

wow, what a riverie, I gather it's a loss. You really liked her, and protected her, but it seems that first it wasn't so. Girls get hurt that way; they dream of the perfect man, but it never comes true, no matter the making it up again. Great read, hon, :D

Been the stranger and shared an ending with a stranger, too. Infinitely relatable poem to me. I think a Gremlin munched on a letter in your title, though. @⊙¿⊙@

I have a few friends who were girlfriends. Some just an occasional contact. No longer part of each other's lives but that shared memory creates a neutral spot we stand on occasionally in respect of that past memory. That's what this poem had me pondering. Loved your I a stranger to me, line! And your structure adds to the stranger feel. A stranger structure! I had started to review the other poem yesterday and went and looked up oranges, then the phone rang....

It does have a offf kilter feel.
I kinda liked that ...Stanger to me... line too
Aye, the last days of a relationship. It was out of this that The Drifter was born. I didn't know who I was. One day, I mounted up, pedaled out of town, and spent the next year on the road. And some days, I still miss the wandering...
Well written, dear friend.

There's nothing worse than a cheater. Especially one that tries to hide it. I like the way you separated the lines by one word. It's like symbolism for words that lose their melodious rhythm between another.
