Secrets to Keep

Secrets to Keep

A Poem by Cherrie Palmer

Tiny mittens pink and red built a snow child,

facing the window next to her bed.

Inch for inch they were the same.

Adornments were gathered lickety-split,

And Kit was the snow girl’s name.

Acorn earring looked so cool,

And last year's scarf fit her well.

She had it all but a mouth to speak.

For her builder had secrets to keep.

Such a clever ending. --- I loved every second of this sweetened bit of mental eyes full. I can see the child's face of fun. --- Oh, so well done and such a nice view from where I watched. --- Thanks.

Good memories are the best bag to pull out of a closet.
I had a teddy bear who was my secret keeper. And I guess I approach this poem a little differently. Little girls, secret crushes... Well, you get it. Nicely done, Cherrie.

Yes, I agree children want and need that invisible/ imaginary playmate. :)
I can kind'a go the path of the child abused who cannot speak...builds another child out of snow...

a replica of herself...maybe the innocent version...but even as the coldness in her builds it, she can't keep it from melting...she will grow up with those secrets...
that scarf maybe fit too well.

Yes I can see how the mental impact can feel sad and weighted.
I was trying to read your next poem but couldn't get my mind off this. I made light of what is a deep kind of intense poem that feels cold with abuse. Maybe I'm wrong but secrets and children are a scary combination. The hidden meaning in this left me feeling awkward for having written before understanding.

Glad it was more about fun then.
Kittie the snowgirl
Was a very hushed girl indeed
With a scarf of wool
And ears so cool
She heard secrets in an acorn seed.

Sing that to Frosty the Snowman.
