Your Words

Your Words

A Poem by Cherrie Palmer
"

Crossing the autistic bridge

"
Let my arms give you my warmth and safety,
Safety that lends to a new beginning.
Whisper in my ear your dreams, my pretty,
I see you dream of tomorrow grinning.

Words for you are weighted trapped within sounds.
Sounds that I animate freeing your mind,
and with each of your new words my heart bounds.
So keep them coming for on them I dine.

I see your understanding of life grow
Growing within the safety of our home.
Your laughter fills me will joy and I glow,
while your tenor each new day sets the tone.

So blossom and flower my turtle dove,
cooing your happy words of childhood love.

Autistic children are special gifts from God that teach us so much more than we could learn on our own; not only about the world but about ourselves as human beings. There's an autistic young man who frequents our local grocery store with his dad. Every time I see him he is smiling and cheerful and he always has to give me a high five. It's become like a habit with us...or it WAS until the pandemic struck. I miss him and his sweet face. This was tender and beautiful. Highest marks for helping raise community awareness through your precious write. If the child is yours, I must say you are very particularly blessed. They are like innocent angels walking among mere men.

My Pleasure
You wrote a shakespearean Sonnet. And it is beautiful!! For whatever it's worth I am impressed! I am going to read this to my friend's mom next time I see them. I know people with autism are listening to us so I share just the same regardless of reaction, or lack of. Even if it goes flying over Gage's head I know he feels you and your words. I just felt them for sure! I am going to put this poem in my library. Maybe it's because I'm so into poetic forms but I'm calling this your best poem!!!

But then somebody took a bunch of their poetry down before I could read it all. Not happy about that. Nice pic!

It may be the site too. It gets bogged down sometimes.
This is so precious.....sweet and beautiful write. I am assuming that this is about your child or your grandchild?
Makes me think that I wish that I had parents that gave a damn about me, maybe for a little while they did, but they haven't in a long time..
Anyway, it doesn't matter, I am very glad to not have them in my life anymore.
