Shadow of the Valley

Shadow of the Valley

A Poem by Cherrie Palmer

Tired of walking I stopped to rest.
My companion stopping with me.
No one really looks at you, said I.
You have a strange allure that lingers.
A peace and calm to be had.
My silent companion smiled as we sat
In the shadow of the valley.
From where I traveled those that remained wept.
Cursing he that led the way
But in time they too shall join me.
Traveling with the Angel of Death.

Reminds me very much of Emily Dickinson's "Because I could not stop for death, he kindly stopped for me/ the carriage held but just ourselves and immortality"
oh those roads we do not want to travel....the companion might just let us down.

That woman should ✍ write. Her words were always filled with such grace and vivid images.
Many people dodge this issue that we all have facing us, but I believe it’s best to look these things straight in the eye. This pretty much says it all …

Most people try to avoid the topic of death. I agree we should look at ot straight on.
Dear Cherrie. When I read your lines, I thought how brave. How brave to have a conversation with the Reaper as you walk in the shadows of death. It is not your time. I wanted you to escape his clutches. My dear mum has the shadow over her. Any time now.
