A Full Day

A Full Day

A Poem by Cherrie Palmer

I had a full day,
-today-
the smell of
baking bread,
allowed my smile
to raise.

If that wasn't enough
on the ridge stood your stone.
From my window it was -flat grey like the sky above-

I spied your old coffee cup, on the windowsill
-my own personal treasure-
and grasped it tightly as I drank.

Then from the window glass, saw my reflection
and found you
-in the quake of emotions-
I wept.

Those days when we waffle between joy and despair... How often do we laugh to keep from crying?
The ghosts of our loved ones haunt our hearts forever. Sad words creating an amazing snapshot of your heart.

You’re welcome
I remember being in a store and a girl stood behind me with the same perfume an old girlfriend used to wear. She popped into my mind immediately.

Scents are automatic. They come from the unconscience. I believe sometimes they're a sign from above. Some happy, some sad.

Well done poem, Cherrie.

Gee
Sounds, sights, aromas all become so much more evocative as we age as each can be referred back to so much that has passed us by in our lives.
Who doesn't love the smell of fresh baked/ baking bread, I'm salivating at the thought.

The smell of freshly baked bread always brings back memories of my beloved grandparents. How lucky I was to have them enrich my life. Beautiful poem Cherrie. Our losses stay with us, just as our memories do.

The rising smile of bread. Great line! I'm sure you meant to write fridge instead of ridge? And wake? Maybe a breakfast food I've never heard of. Full of Cherries. And I'm always putting rocks around too.
