Lumbering Sun

Lumbering Sun

A Poem by Cherrie Palmer

The black road top is wet from rain,
and an ashen ridge of clouds creates an overhang.

The job of the sun is not yet seen, as he climbs for the easternmost peak.

A crimson glow is seen from behind.
As the sun summits the clouded line.

Just that quick the image shifts and like a tumbling tide the wall is split.

The shattered pieces drift away and a lumbering sun warms the day.

Nothing cheers a weary heart like the sunrise after a stormy night. Beautiful images. You describe it so well.

Nice imaging and done with such smoothness. And I absolutely love the last line above all else. Thanks for the ride.

Hi Cherrie, I love the ways in which you have painted the sun. The images are painted onto the canvas of my mind. The sun and the moon are so mystic to me. You catch the haunting beauty in this poetic gem. Have a wonderful Friday....Mike.

Images of the sun, beautifully done, and the rhyme here and there adds an extra touch….” A crimson glow is seen from behind….” Lovely write on the sun’s moods.

Describes the late autumn sun that, after a summer of rising to dizzy heights, struggles to reach half sky height before retiring in the West, ceding the skies to an ever early darkness.

What a creative and luscious poem... I don't know why I used luscious, I never have before...but it just seemed to fit. I especially loved the style, and the sneaky way you slipped in rhymes and near rhymes, throughout the poem, especially the internal ones. Really good job. Terrific use of imagery and metaphors. I think I'll have another.

This is just a magical piece that rhymes as smoothly as the beautiful portrait it paints. Very nicely done Cherrie. It was an enjoyable read and captures the many images of the sunsets and sunrises I graced to witness here in Nor Calif.
