Here In The Dark

Here In The Dark

A Poem by Cherrie Palmer

Here in the dark,

 I feel you.

My memory,

stronger than time.

And my habit of rising early,

suspended.

For I’m afraid,

to turn on the light.

Some memories, both good and bad, will not go away. Often they remind us they are still there in the small hours of the morning. Indeed, they can make us afraid to face life.

I wanted to flip the notion of being afraid of the dark, to being afraid to start the day.
