Old Forgotten Memories

Old Forgotten Memories

A Poem by Cherrie
"

A sunrise surprise

"

On my way to work this morning I chased a flaming sunrise.  The

sharp turns of Hwy 5 intertwined between  shaded

ravines, and an eastern horizon flushed with color.

Two slivers of vermillion electric, and dense

flowed suspended up there in the

 red sea of dawn.

Finally, my own roadway veered south,

and I lost my bird’s eye view as I closed the gap to town.

Somewhere along the way an old forgotten memory

stabbed me in the back.  My pleasant morning vanished as I

fought back hot tears and chocked down an old pain.

Memories are a powerful thing.

They fuel us, shape us, and at times deflate us.

My only advice is hang-on to them all

the good ones add color to life

and

those tough times remind us to

cherish what we have.

Love how you combine vivid nature imagery with the vivid memories that can smack us upside the head at times. I got strong immersion into feelings at the beginning, then the stark breakaway from pleasant thoughts as spiked memories break in (you made us feel this as it happened). I'm not crazy about being so literal as to say "my only advice is . . ." -- I believe your poem already shows this & the reader could deduce it. But I've also done this exact kind of preachy ending to my latest poem (valentine), so I better shut up now! *wink! wink!* Fondly, Margie
