Old Forgotten Memories

Old Forgotten Memories

A Poem by Cherrie
"

A sunrise surprise

"

On my way to work this morning I chased a flaming sunrise.  The

sharp turns of Hwy 5 intertwined between  shaded

ravines, and an eastern horizon flushed with color.

Two slivers of vermillion electric, and dense

flowed suspended up there in the

 red sea of dawn.

Finally, my own roadway veered south,

and I lost my bird’s eye view as I closed the gap to town.

Somewhere along the way an old forgotten memory

stabbed me in the back.  My pleasant morning vanished as I

fought back hot tears and chocked down an old pain.

Memories are a powerful thing.

They fuel us, shape us, and at times deflate us.

My only advice is hang-on to them all

the good ones add color to life

and

those tough times remind us to

cherish what we have.

thank you so much for your review. Cassie, I hope you are doing well.
Too bad the good memories don't spring spontaneously like the bad ones. But you are right . . . all memories can strengthen us . . . if we choose to go that direction. Thanks, Cheerie.

we are made of memories, they are triggered everytime we see something or hear something familar

That little closet of self-consciousness that strikes always at the wrong time and usually in the wrong place.
Always think you can only be strong for so long before the mind delivers that fatal blow.
Got to be a human thing, nothing stays hidden forever.

They sure can.
it is strange how something out of nowhere can release those "triggers" this is gonna sound a bit crazy but once I was watching a commercial and out of nowhere I just emotionally crashed... I still can't figure out what it is I saw that brought it all back. I do remember vividly not being able to go back to the church I grew up in after my grandmother died I would see her sitting in the front pew (as she always did) one day I walked out of mass and never returned

My husband has forbidden me from watching the hallmark channel or At&t commercials lol
I absolutely adore this poem and it speaks true to what I'm feeling at this moment in time. We can't change what's happened in the past, all we can do is cherish the memories we have made. Incredible piece, Cherrie.

Thank you, Laura.
Yes I agree all we can do is decide how the past will shape us.

Spectacular Cherrie … I want to hang onto mine for as long as I possibly can... I can relate to your words here and confess it was not many minutes ago that a memory triggered a tear or two.... Neville

Leo, I am so glad this came across that way. I wasn't sure it would translate when I wrote it. :)
Cherrie, it seems good and bad memories flow as we drive, especially if alone. As you've captured here, the sun, the earth's colors, and sometimes a song on the radio can trigger such memories. It's a seasonal thing for some, the sun and the gray can bring good and bad, sometimes in reverse order. I think we all identify with the "stabbed" comment. And, so much sharp imagery and emotion in this write. It's an exceptional poem that speaks to the power and importance of perspective and gratitude.

this poem rings of such truth...there are things in life that we accelerate towards feeling their importance. But on the way we get sidetracked. and then we end up with regrets that haunt us...the ones we see in our rear-view mirror...past loves, past indiscretions, past losses...
the beautiful sunrise can always seem just bit out of our jurisdiction.
wonderful poem here...the frustration and regret mixed with the idea of being so close to something...comes across strongly.
