not my poem

In the third grade I fell in love with poetry. Our teacher made us write at least one poem. We got extra credit for a collection. I can tell you I do not remember my collection, but I do remember Randy C*****'s. Mostly because he turned it in for 3rd grade English, the 4th, 5th and finally in our senior year journal collection.

There once was a snake 

named Jake.

The snake stepped 

on a rake,

and

that 

was the end

of Jake

the

snake.

dear Cherrie... a snake in the grass may get away, but a snake in the weeds should take heed.

It's amazing the passion a child can find as they learn new things. We were lucky to have a teacher that wanted to reveal a thing instead of just pushing data.

Our English teacher taught Literature as well as grammar in high school. She explained many pieces of English and American literature... and also poetry.
We also had a Drama teacher who was very demonstrative and a Joy to know..... like you and your writings for a Novel. hugs, Pat

I'm sure there is a lesson I should be learning from Jake, but when have I ever heeded a warning?
I do remember sending a valentine to a girl called Jennifer at school. Everyone said we'd get married, but she didn't send me her one, so I started a lifetimes tradition of never speaking to her again.
Probably exaggerated, a little, but even then I had a style of my own.

Roses are red,
violets are blue.
I like you a lot,
but feel insufficiently prepared for a relationship of this degree at such a young and tender age of six. 😀

Cherrie...I remember this from grade school at a young age: "Eve was a woman .. how she could dance. Adam was a shy man.. he hid his face to the wall.. for he knew when Autumn came.. the leaves begin to fall". Fun to share. Pat
