cascading Leaf

cascading Leaf

A Poem by Cherrie Palmer
"

a lonely meal

"

Her little game hen is cooked,

stuffed with dressing for one.

A splash of gravy she takes

for a table set for just one.

Her eyes drift to the window

here in her cabin far from town.

She watches the last leaf cascade

and wonders

where all of her little ones

have gone.

I know how patronising this might sound, but your last line just made me go aww.
It must be a form of torture for parents, who in the midst of them growing up, longed for the day they would get to have some guilt free time to themselves, but it doesn't work out like that, does it? The silence is too silent and no matter the prep involved, it loses some of the taste when you think of all those chaotic dinner times of the past.
Beautifully captured moment that is all too relateable to many.

It's true and in a day when texting replaces life being lived. It cannot replace a hug.

Very true :)
one of the reasons i like serving at the community center is to not be alone on Thanksgiving...out in the woods...solitude is great most of the time...but we wonder where relationships went when we end up by ourselves...such quiet that we can hear those leaves cascading.
