last stop light

last stop light

A Poem by Cherrie Palmer
"

waiting for summer

"

Sun’s liquid waves

Has me retreating

behind retro shades

Hair blowing wild

Windows down

  Skynyrd high

Cornering curves

dusting a blue sky

A basket waits

 for our beach retreat

Strawberry wine

and Coppertone 8

cool Pall Mall

In need of a light

Is met with a match

At the last stop light

Now all 4 barrels scream’n

And the gas gage is travel’n

And the day is waist’n

For the memories were make’n

All I needed was 5 dollars for my tank.
This brings back memories of me and my first car, a convertible MGB, and busting out of work, cranking the tunes and heading for I didn't care where. Fine piece here Cherrie, could almost feel my "colt" years.

It is a good feeling. Carefree with time on your hands.
Memories of yesteryear as one looks forward to getting that sunscrene lotion out again. Gone are the heady days of youth but the sun and summer keep on coming back. Can see you with the top down, hair streaming in the breaze on your way to the beach!

I had fun writing it and miss a little beach weather.
Reminds me of highschool. A lot of my friends smoked menthols and drove old muscle cars. I can still smell the menthol in the air. In the passenger's seat, windows down. We didn't have a care in the world then.
