![]() Chapter 4A Chapter by Ces TanI went to Starbucks after school to do my homework and
essays. I texted Greg and he told me that Mom and Dad are still fighting. A
lovely routine. I can’t believe I’m a part of this family. I ordered Chocolate Chip Frappe coz’ I’m not a real fan of
caffeine and waffles with strawberries. While I was scribbling on my English
homework, someone walk up to me “Can I share the table with you? Seems like
nobody’s planning to leave but I need to finish my papers too” he said with a
warm smile. “Of course, I won’t mind.” I smiled back and continued what
I’m doing. Ten minutes passed and he’s not drinking nor eating what he
ordered he’s just writing silently. I stopped what I’m doing and looked up at
him, his brows are furrowed deep, almost like a unibrow but in a beautiful way.
He’s so concentrated and as curious as I am, I tried to lean a little closer to
peak on what he’s doing. An essay. I never assumed that guys who focused on their things can be
this handsome. I took a sip of my frappe and went back to my essay. Now he’s
looking at me, I can feel his gaze even if I’m not looking at him. My hands
started to shiver but I tried my best to act natural. Minutes passed, he
removed his eyes from me and continued writing. I breathed a sigh of relief. Maybe he stared long enough to know how I look like in case
something went missing from his things. Do I look like a robber to him? I took another sip from my frappe and I choked when a big
chunk of chocolate chip gone directly to my throat. I don’t know how it even
fits in my straw. What a B! I’m coughing so hard, my esophagus hurts… feels like I’m
going to die. This is going to be the headline tomorrow: A seventeen-year old girl died after choking on
starbucks while her date is just staring at her That’s a weird cause of death. And yes, they would think
that this guy’s my date and he’s not doing anything to check if I’m alright.
He’s going to be prisoned for years. They’ll think that this is all his fault. Or maybe I went too far. I should do something… WA"TER please! He’s looking at me, confused. Suddenly, he unzipped his bag and pulled out a bottle of
water and stretched his arm to lend it to me. “Drink this and push whatever it
is that’s clogging your gullet, you’re scaring me” he whispered loud enough for
me to hear. I blushed not only because I’m running out of air but
because I think I’m embarrassing him. I stole the bottled water from his hand
hurriedly and drank it. “Thanks” I told him shyly after breathing as much air
as I can. He smiled but didn’t look at me again. He’s now focused on
his papers and nothing else. After a few minutes, I’m done with my homework. I’ve gone first, I told the guy that Mom needs me at home of
course he gave me a simple nod, he doesn’t care about me. I just shrugged off, I’m hungry, I didn’t touched my food and
I felt like I’m not in the mood to drink my frappe too after the incident. The
drive home was uneventful and quiet. The road is peaceful even if it’s only 6
in the evening… there’s not much cars around. “Rush hour it is” I whispered to myself and gave out a laugh
silently. My arrival turns out to be a surprise for Mom and Dad and
Greg is still not home. And I’m so disgusted to report it but my parents are
having sex… in the kitchen. I can hear them from the living room and I supposed
that everybody in the neighborhood. Can’t they do it privately and soundlessly? Rolling my eyes, I went to my room to change into my night
gown. I called Greg after settling down to my seat beside my bedroom’s window. “Mom and Dad… “, I sighed “they’re not fighting anymore, you
can come home” I said still feeling disgusted. “What’s with your tone?” he asked. “Just go home. Please” I said before hanging up. © 2015 Ces Tan |
