![]() Chapter 3A Chapter by Ces TanThe next morning, I attended literature with Beth. I tried
listening to Ms. Gogo but Beth keeps passing me notes. Thrilling, yes, we might
get caught but we love talking to each other during literature coz’ Ms. Gogo is
boring or maybe just the subject she’s teaching. I looked around and saw a lot of them sleeping or doing
something else. I spotted the girl at the diner, now I can confirm that I did
saw her somewhere. She’s texting and I looked at Ms. Gogo who’s walking towards
her. I kicked Beth’s chair to pass a note. Tell the girl who’s wearing stripes to stop what she’s doing
or she’ll lose her phone for the rest of the school year. She laughed “This sounds like poetry. You must be listening
to Ms. Gogo a lot” she whispered. We tried our best to get the girl’s attention but we didn’t.
Mission failed. Ms. Gogo captured her phone then she rolled her eyes in
annoyance and put her head on her desk. A total B! She’ll get along with Hannah. Ms. Gogo won’t let her get it after dismissal, if that’s
what she’s expecting from her. Ms. Gogo’s the only teacher who will make you wait until the
end of the semester to give everything that she captured from the students but
what’s good about her is that she’ll never send you to detention for something
that you did in her class. ** I’m seated with Beth at the soft bound corner of the library
that nobody goes to during breaks for less than five minutes. And we’re not
doing anything but telling each other how annoying we are at times. But I
suddenly remembered diner girl…“Do you know her?” I asked. “Who?” “The victim of Ms. Gogo’s treasure hunting earlier at Lit” “Shaina, she’s the sister of St. Anthony’s hottest nerd” “St. Anthony? The school Peter came from?” “Yes, her brother is a nerd. That’s what they call him
because he’s too focused on his studies and he never had a girlfriend but he’s
hot. I’ll ditch Peter someday if he’ll ask me out” “Stop being too confident but honestly, I don’t like Johnny
B. that much. That wouldn’t be a bad idea” “Ouch, I’ve always thought that you’re getting along with
each other.” “He looks like Johnny Bravo and his feet always smells like
egg” “I agree” then she laughed with me. “But why’d you ask?” she
asked with curiosity in her eyes. “I think I saw her in the diner last night, she served our
supper” “Oh, I didn’t saw her maybe I’m"“ “Too busy with your boyfriend” “But you know what? There’s a rumor spreading that she’s
having an intimate relationship with her brother” she whispered, careful that
nobody can overhear. Hannah arrived suddenly with a bag full of doughnuts. “What
are you two talking about?” “Just Shaina from Lit” I answered before putting my hand
inside the bag to pull something for me. I got the butternut with chocolate
filling. My favorite! “Oh we’re meant to be” I said with amusement in my eyes. Hannah and Beth are trying to push back their laughter. “Can I have the honey-dipped? Please?” here comes Beth… Hannah loves honey-dipped the most, Beth tried it once and
fell in love with it that’s why every time Hannah get herself one, she’s forced
to share it with her. “I know that you’ll ask for it that’s why ordered three
doughnuts with that flavor” “Oh thank you Hannah!” she said dramatically before hugging
her. “Ew, get off me!” Hannah pushed her away. “Ugh, as if I wanted to hug you!” she exclaimed after she
stumbled down the floor. We laughed so loud that the librarian told us to get out. © 2015 Ces Tan |
