sum of me

sum of me

A Poem by ChemicalMadness

i can give you
     some of me

but that’s not
what
     you
          asked

we spoke in reverent tones
   skin too flushed
                to be hushed
   we read each other
                      lingered
                      reveled
                      tasted
    each verse...

 we consumed

and when appetites
were fed
or at least temporarily
sated
          the question hung

     how much of me
     could you
     have

you can have some
          not all

there was a time, once
statements were made
temptingly impetuous
(defiantly honest)
                    the solution was obvious
                    some day
                    i would certainly give all
                    of me

today i stand apart
from that me

                     i’ve watched him
                    these the many years
                    ...never knowing

you can have some of me
not all
               for the sum
               of me
has to include
               pieces of you
   ...for me to be
          whole
i cannot give all

there must be some
     of me
                    to take
                              from you

Tis a fear that stops one giving everything .. or a hurt .. or pain .. or insecurity or .. a million and one things.. until that one day you find the answer to your own riddle. Indecision diluted, evaporated.

Your writing so often makes me think further than mere words, you write, '.. .. when appetites ~ were fed ~ or at least temporarily ~ satiated ~ the question hung .. .. ' and therein lies the wait for an answer.

This is really to the point, and I can feel here, you write in poetry a perfect Yin, Yang, of live, love and balance, for I highly admire that, into someone.
Beautifully crafted for one can't be whitout another, and vice verse.

I love people who are theirselves... like you. No sorry's ever k? :D
this progressed just fine for me...and i felt a reflection in the heart's mirror.

ever since my first divorce, no one has gotten all of me...it just won't happen..i give as much as i can give, but it is never the whole me...i keep part back...even if not intentionally.

we do become like a math problem don't we...we keep subtracting..so much so there is less and less to give others.

love it.

A beautiful work in progress... I love this, because I can relate to it. Sometimes people want too much; more than another is willing, or able, to give. This can be toxic for a relationship, even a friendship. There must be the "meshing" of two willing and compassionate souls for these things to work. I guess I'm looking at this from both sides; one side the person who feels as though they are being ripped apart by the want of others, and on the other side the person who wants too much, maybe without even realizing that they are asking for too much. This one has many different metaphorical directions, which I really love. I shall be adding this to my library and pondering the possibilities. Good work, CM.

This is amazingly poignant, how true, what a stunner you've written here. People want all of us, without giving some of themselves, the sum of us is always a tough equation and doesn't always add up, brilliant!
