Just a Walk in the ParkA Story by digital_angel19I just typed out what I felt at the moment. :)
The
world is an ever changing place. Sometimes, changes are so instant and
monumental that it will be impossible NOT to notice them. Other times,
the changes are so small and gradual that we only notice it when it's
done.
Like that small pebble in the road which you keep cursing because it stubs your toe. One day, you are walking on that routine path. You come around that patch of road where the pebble lies, and you start to expect that you'd stub your toe again. But, in a moment of surprise, you actually continue walking pain free! You slowly come to a stop. And you look back down the path that you'd walked on, looking for the pebble that has become the bane of your toe's existence, but at the same time a familiar companion on your long strolls in the park. You look hard enough to see your foot prints, but that pebble, that oh so usual and recognizable pebble, isn't there. Where could it have gone? Perhaps nature has ordained that the pebble be removed from your path? Or, maybe, someone just picked it up because they stubbed their toes on it too? Either way, the pebble was gone. You wouldn't stub your toe anymore. You wouldn't feel the pain lancing up through your leg, making you cringe and curse at the same time. Reluctantly, you admit to yourself that you might miss that pebble. Not because of the pain, but because of the familiarity. When you notice what you just thought, you let out a small bitter chuckle. Who in their right minds would miss a pebble? Has your life really become that boring? Are you, dare you think it, lonely? And then, at that exact moment and thought, you are startled by clarity and realization. Have you been hiding your loneliness from yourself? Is that even possible? With a determined nod of your head you make the decision to take a new path in park. Who knows? You might even meet someone new. But right now, for the last time, you WANT that sense of familiarity. You WANT that routine you have. Just one more time. Just to bring you, maybe, a sense of closure. But closure from what? Certainly not life. All this thinking would give you a headache. And so, with a shake of your head, just once more, you set down that path that takes you through the park. You smile a little bit at yourself. You'd have made a funny picture if someone saw you there standing in the middle of a worn path in the park, staring blankly into space, shaking, and even nodding, your head. At least, you think to yourself, you made a life decision on that path. Who would have thought? You don't know whether to laugh or cry. Maybe both? © 2013 digital_angel19Author's Note
