Dad

Dad

A Poem by Eleanor

Breathe in, nice and deep

Try to steady your erratic heartbeat

Its been days since you had any sleep

But your eyes don’t droop as you watch the street

You feel the time pass

Thoughts crashing in your head

Still hazy from the grass

And you almost go home instead

But a familiar sight catches your eye

Your savior, come to relieve you

Of the darkness that fuels your supply

And the misery you cant undo

A quick deal until you're set

The adrenaline coursing through your veins

The thrill of the high is worth the threat

And you cant begin to explain

Where the money went

And how fast

Until suddenly its all spent

And several hours have surpassed

And then you’re alone

Waking up from a dose

To an empty home

Abandoned by the ones you need most
