Summer in Virginia

Summer in Virginia

A Poem by W. Dunning

Yeah, one of these days.
Not yet summer and already
the day is hell
with hot air and moisture,
choking you with each inhale.

Today's that day you expect
the Sun to be glaring,
blinding you

but even that isn't happening,
given the Sun is obscured by clouds.

Today is blanketed by haze,
a mix of strangling humidity
and patchy clouds.
One moment, the Sun's brass balls,
the next a dim light
covered by what looks like rain
with no lightning in sight.
