The Freak ShowA Poem by Captain NostalgiaThis was an assignment for class. We were to do poems of a place and used same beginning letters to give our poem flow. It describes an old freak show when the performers had this as their only job choice and were often reveared as outlaws.
Come one! Come All!
The show has just begun!
Welcome to the show!
Come in! Come in!
Here, we have the Fantastic Fishface!
Gills and lungs,
He smells of sea.
Come one! Come all!
Join us gypsies,
Fit for the gallows.
Sir Simon
The Strong Man,
Lifting sixteen tons!
Set your eyes on Helga as The Deformed Damsel
Hear her howl and resonate old hymns without God,
Pull the twisted tangles of her teal tresses.
The show has only started! Sit down! Sit down!
Pinhead pines for the attention of your eyes and ears
As the needles pierce his skin,
But no pain or proper injury is perceptible to the eye.
Coralline the Contortionist could stun you
With her exotic dances,
For lonesome men and curious boys.
Oh, yes,
You could say we’re monsters…
But what does that make you?
