hmmm, because of the last line I do have to think a bit so your right XD. I just think of this as a persons attraction to pain and pleasure or how people tend to go on a merry-go-round of emotions and do nothing about their problems. The lemons bitterness (representing pain) is what people are "attracted" to, wether they think so or not. I know a lot of people that have given up and it gets on my nerves when they don't do anything about their problems even though its not hard and i try to help them. Thats what I see it as, the drift in life where people become attracted to the bitterness. The sugar is pleasure, people try to drown out the pain with pleasure instead of doing something about it. It can range from the pleasure of being with another person (friend, boyfriend/girlfriend) to alcohol, to hobbies. Now for that very last line, I either take it as someone realizing that they need to do something about it and starting fresh (getting rid of the pain AND pleasure to start anew) OR committing suicide. Tell me if I'm right XD and thanks for entering this! Its short but contains a lot of depth, i love it^^)

Well with poetry there is no "right" answer. Your interpretation I do like though. Just to clarify.. read moreWell with poetry there is no "right" answer. Your interpretation I do like though. Just to clarify, the meaning is predominantly about suicide. Death is a "bad" thing, and people rarely embark lightly upon it. But death is the sugar, sweetening the bitterness of life. In short, death is tolerable because life is even worse. The second stanza is about being ambivalent about killing oneself. Make of the last line what you will.

Ah, I can see that, thank you for the clarification^^)
This is well written. However, I don't mean this negatively; it's not my cup of 'tea'.
Something that you did which I really appreciate: brevity -- something I'm not too good at. If I were Pound speaking to Eliot (which I'm most certainly not, but am attempting to set the scene) I would say, take out the conjunctions.
In any case; as I mentioned it is well written, but I suppose for me personally it feels a little prosey. Not that there's anything wrong with that.
