Heartbeat

Heartbeat

A Story by Chauncey
"

A slightly longer short story

"

I felt a soft thud as she slumped over onto me, her head resting on my shoulder. Smiling to myself, I wrapped my arm around her waist, my index finger tracing an invisible oval on her outer thigh. In return, I got a sigh of content with a small readjustment. No words were said, as no words were necessary. The stars seemed to be shining brighter than before as she put her hand on my shoulder underneath her head to cushion it.

The night was perfect, the milky light of the moon seemed to illuminate her, her sapphire blue eyes, her long dirty blonde hair and the pairings in her ears seemed to reflect the silver moonlight back into the dimly lit night sky. I decided to stop using her skin as drawing pad for my finger, and moved my hand up to her hip and pulled her closer, her head now resting in the nape of my neck.

She readjusted herself, putting her arm on my left shoulder. I smiled wider and closed my eyes, and before long I felt her body start to enter a pattern of rise and fall. The crickets chirped louder, our own personal lullaby in the night. Feeling content I put my head back, resting it on the wall behind me. Within seconds, I felt the world slow down, the crickets chirps increased and my heartbeat fall into sync with hers.
