And One Day You Will Grow Another Heart (Words to A Friend)

And One Day You Will Grow Another Heart (Words to A Friend)

A Poem by paradoxical
"

I can only say this.

"

There are no words
that will give you a reason to let go.
And I cannot tell you how to move on.
You'll get no such advice from me. I'm useless.
I can only warn you of what
you are already starting to realize.

People with good intentions
will give you long-winded,
heart-warming,
cliche consolations.
They mean well, but all words
to you now will only ring empty
as the meaning behind them.

And you might get angry,
maybe even feel self-righteous.
Bullshit tends to provoke
that reaction.

Because time heals no wounds.
Time simply moves along,
forcefully dragging you
with your toes dug deep
into the past
and your little arms
wrapped tightly around someone
who is no longer there.
Time does not care.
It's your only honest ally,
and even it will trick you.

That abyss;
the place that used to be home
to anothers heart,
will now and forever remain silent
and full of the things they gave you
and the words you left unspoken.

There is no healing.
There is no replacing.
There is just regret.

My friend, it is just beginning.
Every single day,
for now and the distant future,
your greatest battle will be
to get out of the bed in the morning
and keep breathing.

As the moments, the hours,
the days and the years sludge by,
you will just gradually get used to
the hole being there.
You will just adapt to the
sad sound of memories
ever present,
ever inaudible.

For a long time,
that's as good as it will get.
But that's okay, isn't it?
They earned it.
Damn it, they deserve
at least that.

Author's Note

paradoxical
I hate it when I write long ones. I want to change this but I can't figure out how I want to do it.

What I like here is the great title, a title that deserves to go viral, and the relaxed, intimate, vocative style, even if the tone of the poem gets bitter towards the last verses, and the length is fine, it gives the poem a serious and considered tone, which it undoubtly deserves. Good work.

I think I agree with the other reviewers, it is quite long but it reads well and quite quickly. once you start reading it flows nicely and you don't really notice the length. I like it.
