No Matter What, I'll be Happy Today

No Matter What, I'll be Happy Today

A Story by ChasingHappiness

I think I’ve gotten the hang of it. It’s easy to be happy. If you’re the lonely type, the loner, the want to be all by myself type, you can still be happy. Of course, if you have a friends, it’s easier to be happy. All you have to do is call or text them, then go out and have fun. But what if you don’t have friends? What if you have friends, but they’re unavailable at the moment, does that mean that you’ll just sulk inside the house. Of course, not.

When I’m in the pits, these are the usual things I do to get my spirits up:

I go to my favorite secondhand bookshop and I browse. If I’m lucky, I’d locate something interesting, and buy it. Then I go read it in Starbucks with a tall glass of my favorite iced coffee, without the cream of course, because my waistline is getting bigger as I get older.

Or, I go for a walk. Either with my dog, or all alone. I choose a path that’s safe of course. Far from cars, cause I  like walking with my mp3 plugged in my ears. I wear running shoes, just in case I get to feel like jogging. I do the walk-jog routine: safer on the knees.

Or, I go to the movies. Alone, or with a buddy. If making your schedule fit your buddy’s schedule is a hassle, I watch alone. After watching, I treat myself to my favorite snack and of course my favorite coffee drink. Even if you’re not
Sherlock Holmes, you must know by now that I’m a coffee addict.

By the way, there’s a study that coffee addicts are usually very happy people. Just kidding, haven’t seen any study about that. But if you observe coffee drinkers, you don’t need to read any study attesting to that fact.

Now, going back to being happy. There’s something you can do right away at home. Watch TV. But this time, I purposely look for a movie I’ve already seen and try to concentrate on the scenery, the setting. I try to really notice how beautiful or colorful the world is. Of course, you’d find yourself being bored and you’d start channel hopping, but by that time, you would have been reminded that the world is full of nice places.

Or, I put on the PC and type nature. I look at nature pictures. Or trails, or scenic spots, or beautiful places, or the wonders of the world.  Lots of nice pictures on the internet. Then I think about God and tell Him that I’m  feeling sad. I ask for His help. I ask Him to be with me, enter my heart, or my mind, and make me feel better.

He has never denied such request.  Never.

I  don’t think He’ll ever deny you that request.
