“Ok kids I didn’t know Uncle Boo’s number so I’m going to have to get us an hotel and then try and get his information from the cross or maybe just use 411” “Jennifer why we have to change our names again?” asked Kevin “Because son, were on a secret mission!” Jennifer bent down and grabbed his cheeks “Special agent Thomas Chandler” whispered Jennifer in his ear and she tickled him. “I got to pee-pee!!!” yelled Tammy “Ok ok gosh Jack take her please.” Jackie got mad at Jennifer for having to be the baby sitter but she took her sis and skipped their way down to the restroom. “Jenn?” “Yes Cal” “I miss Aunt Casey” “She’s only a state away boo, we’ll call her when I’m sure we are safe so that she won’t worry about us.” Jennifer looked into her brothers eyes and grinned. He tried to smile back but then growled and laughed. He hated when she made him laugh in rather bad situations. Jennifer and the boys dangled their feet as they waited for Jackie and Tammy. A man watched them and kept looking up at Jennifer from his paper. Jennifer caught his eye and they both smiled before turning back. But Jennifer kept peaking from out the side of her eye and saw him gazing at her and the paper. He got up and came her way. “Oh my.” she said to herself. “Hello Miss, I couldn’t help but notice you look just like the girl in this paper that’s been reported missing.” Jennifer got a worried look on her face. He noticed. “Are you missing miss?” he gave her a smile and she smiled a little one back. “No. I mean that’s me but it’s most likely my Aunt that reported me missing just to get me home. Me nor my children here are in danger sir. Were just going on a road trip that’s all.” “Oh. Okay good then miss. You have a splendid day.” He tipped his hat to Jennifer and she leaned in a thank you. ‘These Tucky men are sweet’ she thought to herself. Calvin tapped her on her shoulder “Jenn aunt Casey reported us missing!?” “Yes Cal, so that’s why when I get to the hotel and we settle in I’m calling her from a private blocked number so that we can’t be tracked.” Jennifer looked down. “What’s wrong?” asked Jackie as she sat back beside Jennifer “The thing is I can’t tell her where we are and I wanted to so bad so she wouldn’t worry.” “You guys we need to pray for her because I know she’s a wreck. The kids all gave sad faces at each other. “Can we just go back home?” whined Tammy “Tam if we go back to VA we’ll be separated and I’m sorry but that’s just something I can’t stand right now or ever,” huffed Jennifer. Jackie rubbed on her back, “it’ll be okay big sis” Jennifer turned and hugged her sister. Then all the kids joined in to hug, they’ve been doing a lot of that lately. Jackie broke everyone loose so she could go to the station desk and ask where the nearest hotel was. It was about 10 miles from the station so Jennifer called a taxi and talked to the driver to get to know a few things about Kentucky. “Good state” he chimed “I lived here all my life, met my wife in Virginia though when I had a good construction job going on there.” “Aw your married?” jokingly said Jennifer. “Yes mam that woman is my life. You Virginia woman are pretty.” The girls said thank you and flipped their hair. The taxi driver laughed. “Miss Chandler I’m going to take you to a better hotel, that may be closet to the station but I won’t charge extra for taking you to a much nicer one for you and the kids.” Jennifer gave him the okay and they drove another 5 miles on down the road. She slid down in the seat and worried about them being reported missing. That alone could crush her plans. “Here we are miss.” “Thank you Mr. Amp, we appreciate it. Here’s your pay.” “Not a problem Miss Chandler, you all have a good night and enjoy Tucky!” “Haha we will sir, you have a good night to.” The kids waved as he drove off and Jennifer watched as he pulled out his collect and a big 20 dollar tip. She smiled as he smiled reading her note that stated ‘Please do no turn back around and give this money back, this is yours dude!’ He rolled down the window and gave another wave before disappearing back down the road hill.
They all loved the hotel room they had gotten. It had 5 bedrooms, a game system and big television, a much bigger microwave and a beautiful on look of the city. Jennifer and Jackie got the kids washed and sleep before her and Jackie got out powder doughnuts and discussed things. “Jack were going to be just fine.” “Oh Jenn I know but I’m still so scared. What if that missing thing starts blowing up?” “Don’t worry. God’s got us sweetie.” Jackie smirked and plopped down on her pillow. “I know. But anyways let me talk to Uncle Boo when you call him.” Jennifer patted her sister on the head and turned off her light. She then went to her room and turned the TV to TBN. A movie was on and she could tell it had not been on for long. A few minutes into it she remembered the movie being Grace’s Will. It was one of her favorites because the movie was almost similar to the situation she now sat in. Jennifer turned it down after watching about 20 minutes of it and dialed 411. “Hello, This the operator, how may I assist you tonight?” “Yes I need the phone number to Willard Campbell.” “Okay mam city and state please?” “Well I don’t know which city but he lives in this state.” “Alright mam I have his number, the recording will read it to you and you can copy it down or have us give you a direct connection. A direct connection will cost you 5 dollars. Just listen to the recorder for further directions. You have a good night.” Before Jennifer could say you to the recorder began reading the number. Jennifer didn’t get the first 3 numbers so she went on head and got a direct connection. Her uncle answered on the 3rd ring. “Hello?” “Uncle Boo!” “Jennifer?!” “Yea hey what’s up?!” “Um nothing really, what are you doing in Kentucky? Is mom there with you all?” “No I got some bad news.” Jennifer heard her uncle swallow on the other end of the phone before he said okay. “Grandma died Uncle Boo…were here in this hotel hopping we could stay with you for a while until I can get things straight because we don’t want to be put in foster homes…” She could hear her uncle crying but then he sucked in a deep breath and was quiet for a minute. “How did she die Jenn?” “I don’t really know, but it happened in the house and she looked so peaceful down there on the floor Uncle B” “Aw man Jenn I’m so sorry.” “No Uncle B it’s okay, I know where she is…” “Well Jenn I have bad news to, I got kicked out I’m staying with a friend, you got his number because he gave me a phone line on his connection.” “Oh I’m sorry Uncle B, but you know I got something that can fix that.” “Um okay Jenn but you know I’m not feeling to good so can I just call you just call me back later on?” Jennifer knew he wanted to lay and sob somewhere. “Uncle B please don’t feel bad, it was her time. Were all going to be just fine!” All he said was yea then he hung up. Jennifer slid off her bed and started praying for uncle. Then she got back up made a cup of cocoa and watched the movie until she fell into a deep sleep.
