“Oh Lord not again!!!” screamed Jennifer. Her grandma laid in the floor suffering from a heart attack. She cried not again because the same had happened her mother 4 years ago. “Jackie why is this happening to us again!?” cried their brother Calvin. Jackie was constantly wiping her eyes to see from tears “Cal were doomed now, it’s foster homes for all of us!” Jackie sobbed. “I’m calling the ambulance!” shouted Calvin in a angry tone. They didn’t at first because Jennifer had told them both not to since they already knew she was dead. She had to explain to them that if they called the ambulance than they will see that’s she dead and get the police to escort them all to a foster home. “NO CALVIN!” she yelled as drool spilled out her mouth. Jennifer frantically paced around the living room. Their grandmother still in the floor, lifeless. “We have to start packing.” whispered Jennifer “Packing!?” streaked Jackie “Yes packing. We need to get out of this city…out of the tide water area period!” Calvin sat down by his grandma rubbing her cheeks as tears began to form again. “Calvin sweetie” whispered Jennifer “Grandma’s in a better place. She’s okay but were not. We are only 17,15,10,9 and 7 year old kids. They will indeed put us in foster homes if we didn’t pack as much as we can and run away now boo.” Jennifer held his chin in her left hand and looked straight into his eyes “We can stay a family if we work together and get out of town.” she tried her best to give him a smile and so did he. “Ok yawl were going to get some travel bags and stuff them with our best clothes and things we’ll need…nothing else!” commanded Jennifer “And after we have done that we’ll wake up the other 2 and run out the back with them and hop into a taxi that I’m going to call right now.” With that said Jackie and Calvin went about rambling through things to get what they would need. As Jennifer went to her room to begin stuffing her clothes in her book bag she looked over at her youngest brother and sister, Kevin and Tammy. She thought to herself how they don’t have the heart ache she does since their sleep and wished she could switch places. After they had finished the packing and had a taxi on the way Jennifer told Jackie and Calvin to bow with her in prayer…
“Dear Lord, we come before you in prayer asking that you help us tonight. Lord I pray that you have someone come to our house after we have gone and get things situated for our grandma’s funeral. Jesus I pray that you give peace to our Aunt Casey when she comes and find out the bad news. Lord let her know that were okay and that your watching over us as we take this journey to stay a family. Jesus I hope that you will help us to follow in my plan but if we have to go to a foster home please don’t allow us to never see each other again. I love you Lord God and I thank you. In Jesus Name we pray. Amen!”
They all opened our eyes and did little smiles at each other. Calvin began weeping again and Jackie held him for minute. Jennifer whispered in his ear, “If you keep hold on the faith rope with us we can do anything and everything will be okay.” Her little brother looked up at her and kissed her cheek. Jennifer wrote a note to their aunt and taped it to the office door then the 3 of them gathered 1 last time around their grandma and each gave her a kiss. “First my mommy, then my grandpa and now my grandma!” cried Jackie. They all looked at each other with weary eyes and sad hearts. Jennifer, Jackie and Calvin waited until the taxi drove up before waking the youngest ones so that they wouldn’t have to see what was going on and be screaming and possibly ruin the whole plan. As soon as the taxi driver honked the horn they dashed to wake the children and grabbed the bags. Jennifer looked much older than 17 and the taxi driver thought them to be her kids. “Were you and your children heading to mam?” “We want to go deep into Suffolk.” The driver gave her a look and said that it will be expensive. Jackie got a wad of cash out her bra and waved it in the driver’s mirror view. With that he shoved off. During the ride the driver observed them all, “You all look mighty sad back their what’s wrong?” The kids all looked at Jennifer waiting for her to respond “I lost my mom, they lost their grandmother, it happened just recently so were still kind of despondent sir.” “Oh I’m very sorry to hear that.” “It’s okay, she’s in a better place now.” “Oh so you all are Christians?” “Yes sir. For God we live. For God we die.” “I’m so glad to hear you say that mam.” They all smiled at the driver. He showed them his cross the mirror. And they talked about church, the bible and funny pastors the whole ride.
I think this story has potential - I highly suggest breaking it up into traditional paragraphs for ease of reading, it's very difficult to follow in massive paragraphs.
Wow this is very powerful, and I love where it's going so far. It's intense though, but I'm glad you were able to put it into words. Haven't read what comes next though, but now I'm definitely motivated to keep on reading. I agree though, you might want to space the paragraphs out a little more to help the reading. I definitely want to see where this is going though, and will keeeep on going to find out =]
This is a powerful, yet sad story that can become a very good story. Greif can be a hard topic to write on. One little piece of info thought you might want to put the story in paragraphs
This story really hit home with me. Especially the beginning, "Oh Lord not again!!!" screamed Jennifer. Her grandma laid in the floor suffering from a heart attack.
I took care of my grandma for over 10 years before she passed away last September; the thing that killed me the most was that she died on the one day that I went out with a friend and I wasn't there for her when it happened.
this is a very emotional write,it really caught my attention so strong..
its a strange situation for the seven kids their grandmother dropped dead and they are surely to go to a foster home..very bad situation and they have to act quick, strange how life can put even young children to taste its bitter taste and to see how life could be cruel and how you should deal with it ,even if they are still not mature enough to stand up to situation like that ..this was really a nice write i really loved it,i liked to see how youngsters would behave if put in situations they have never seen before..
lovely write
