A Poem by CharlyeMonroe
"

Number 15 from The Knockouts

"
As the crow flies
My eyes have seen woman
Girls even
Kill switch
Inner chaos because turmoil just doesn’t seem like a strong enough word
Absurd even
Brilliance
Want’s desire
Drive definition
A single man
Fertility ritual
Wrappings above
Ribbon in her hair
Destiny
The word is stiff
Hard and fast
I hate it
Both sides of the same coin
Bluntly
“My life doesn’t mean that much to me”
The dependency issues
The self loathing and loving
Disease bringer
Ring barer
Bad news only expected
Impulsive and rejected
So serious
Stoicism doesn’t attract any friends
My death on my back

Black and fierce
No retreat in its face
Sound and fury quiet
A fool for believing
Behind the front
Feeling it out
Promises to make good when the time is right
Appetites small
To binge
Purge blood
Humors black
Bile
Blood cold
Frozen stone solid
Size shattered
Size stunted
Size shunted
She mutters
“I smother my child with a security blanket”
Cold and dead
Head in concrete
Up from the toes
Below pedestal propping up the remains
No words to be said
Swallow my tongue when I go under
Whole
And wonder
Sealed in
“It is a commitment”
Foolhardy and so on and so on
Go on home
Please, lest we forget
Her smell like blueberries
Soft and plump
Fragrance
Heavy accented
A figment

This lifestyle’s
Breath doesn’t chill my spine
Sunken eyes into head
Mummified
Mastery of nothing and nowhere
Plenty of time to talk about the good old days
Retirement in a concrete cube
It is self explanatory and there is no turning back
Path cracked
Forked
Fill in the blank for me
On my own
Born this way and died
Ask me if I have changed
I’ll say I smile more
