Mardi Gras

Mardi Gras

A Poem by Charlie Hawthorne
"

"

Masked by darkness.

But blinded by light.

Never before has there been an image

So intimately perfect

And exquisitely pure.

Like untarnished silver

Or a flawless diamond.

The white billows of comfort

Turn gold with the powerful but gentle

Rays of the sun.

Yet down the road a battle rages on.

The soft and golden sun cannot reach

And the sky continues to blacken.

Fiercely the darkness begins to consume perfection.

The golden day is lost,

The black night begins.

I will close my eyes and wait

For another day of soft, golden,

Perfection.

Paints a beautiful picture of the daytime that comes when night is finished.
