The Jester OutcastA Poem by Charley Dominic
Fade away, into the grey stone wall,
Become a scribble in a scrawl, A face in a moving crowd, A puff of smoke in a cloud, Innocently leaning against the pillar, A fool for an unexpected killer, The one who has gazes pass over him, 'Til he starts to sing his hymn, Just a jester in the court of kings, With his musical instrument of strings, Sung and composed of lies, A simple part of his disguise, A joker who notices all, Every event in this great hall, Half hidden eyes never cease to this large hall police, Eyes sleepy and half lidded, 'Til he begins his performance unbidded, A dance, song and joke here, So the nobles shed a tear, Then i dance and caper off, My merry hat and bells i do doff, To hide my many masks, And to aid my many tasks, I stand in the shadow, Of what happened long ago, A whisper of a myth, a glimmer of legend, When death was a very good friend, I'm an ancient lost relic, A forgotten dark angelic, I don't really belong here, Casting this court into fear, Glittery masks adorn my face, As along my stone stage i pace, Fake words and laughter, Accusations fly up to fill the rafter, 'Til the court banishes my words, And leave me alone with the birds, Eating mouldy bread and singing every morn, My clothes muddy and torn, Because i was the the fool, the joker, The jester who laughed with his face in the ochre, So i smile and brush of a tear, I don't really belong here, © 2009 Charley DominicAuthor's Note
