Work Sets You Free

Work Sets You Free

A Poem by Charley Dominic

Close the windows, keep out the storm,

For the cold shall come this night,

Frost shall fall, ice will bite,

How many souls shall be gone at dawn?

Please pass us by when the evening falls,

Oh blessed are we,

The hunter of Jews we shall see,

I can hear the hunters hound,

Nazi soldier i feel your breath,

Bringing with you midnights death,

You're satisfaction, we've all been found,

What have we done to deserve this?

Oh blessed are we,

Our lord god is guilty,

Ten minutes to pack,

Confusion clothes and breakables,

Money food and valuables,

All thrown hurriedly into a sack,

Prodded along like cattle,

Oh blessed are we,

Prisoners without dignity,

"Get over there Jewish scum"

Torture, gas, murder, rape

Nazis under the influence of grape,

Our suffering, their fun,

"who cares they are not human?"

Oh blessed are we,

Work sets you free. .
