An urban legend I made for a contest thingy. Involves a cave, sound, and craziness.

The Reverse Bottleneck Cave

In the United States, Delaware, there "lives" a cave which goes by the title: The Reverse Bottleneck Cave. The reason for this is due to what a "bottleneck" is, at least in general terms. For sound in this case, its when the sounds get weaker and weaker as you go throughout a cave. This is normal knowledge, I mean that's how distance works with sound. But in this particular cave, its quite the opposite. 

Hypothetically, lets say there's two people. If one was to stand a few feet at the moth of the cave, and the other to step a foot into the mouth, normally you'd expect to hear them as loud as you normally could. But no matter how loud the person in the cave is, yelling at the top of their lungs or whatnot, the second will never hear a word. Only till the person in the cave goes deeper, will you hear a sound from them. Around 100 feet or so, you could pick up maybe something if you have good enough hearing. At 700, its almost as if your friend is across a football field, give or take a few hundred feet.

But, even 700 feet is dangerous considering nearly no-one has explored the cave. But, by word of mouth, some have gone father. Around 2000 feet is the record for cave divining, so its hard to estimate how deep some people go. But... one thing is for sure, 1500 feet is where people rarely have resurfaced. And these are the depths where you can hear someone as if they are across a hallway. But, there isn't much outside help could do at that point no matter how clear their voices are.

Someone was estimated to have gone at the 2000 foot depth mark, again give or take. It's hard to tell, because the sound to depth ratio doesn't seem to have a smooth pattern, just a general growth. But, at this depth the only thing people could hear were pleads for help, for food, for water. All while nearly being next to you in sound, as if they were on their knees. Until, there was nothing but silence. 

So, be careful if you manage to discover this cave. And, I'm sorry if someone is whispering in your ear, and you can't see them. It's too late.

Haha, I doubt anyone truly would do well at some of those "extremes" without some help. But yeah, I totally get what you mean. No problem!
