Dragon Spawn

Dragon Spawn

A Story by Ellen Roberts
"

A princess runs away from her wedding only to encounter a strange man .

"

As the Princess was riding her horse with furious intensity away from the palace where where wedding was taking place she felt foolish.  Her instincts about the prince were probably wrong. During the months she prepared for the wedding she felt a menacing evil about the prince. The cruel way he treated his horse for example or the way he treated children. It was the look on his face when he was around children.  He looked at them as if they were insects.

She couldn’t go through with it. She ran away from the ceremony and jumped on somebody’s horse and raced away. The prince and his soldiers got on horses and pursued her. She went fast through the forest and lost them. The only thing now is that her horse was not stopping. She was going incredibly fast. The horse was terrified. She began to feel a sense of fear in her belly.  Suddenly she was snatched by the waist by a man who was riding next to her. She was on his horse as he slowed down the horse she was on.

They stopped after a while. The man was dressed as a farmer. He looked a little older than her. He had a rugged look about him. He seemed older that the princess. “Well that was refreshing” said the farmer slightly out of breath. “You were headed for a cliff, did you know that?” The princess slid down from the farmer’s horse and “No, I didn’t know that” “That horse would not have stopped. “, the farmer said. “Thank you, I’m grateful, I am "““Princess Bethany, I know. You are getting married today”. “ I suppose everyone in the kingdom knows. “ “But why were you running away? The farmer asked gently as if to a small child. “ He is evil, I can’t marry him I need to get away. Will you help me?” “ I can take you away from here to a place where they won’t find you.  But I know the Prince he will keep looking for you, he won’t stop. He needs to be destroyed, Bethany.” ‘What? Kill him? I don’t want that on my conscience.”

Suddenly a group of soldiers rode up with the Prince in front. Flames burst out of nowhere and forced the horses back. Bethany was confused. The Famer grabbed her and ran for the horse. They got on the horse and started racing for the cave. By the time the soldiers and the Prince got themselves together Princess Bethany and the farmer were at the cave. “Where did those flames come from ?” asked Bethany. “They came from me” said the farmer. I have a curse I am destined to be part dragon and part man until the love of my life comes into my life.” I have waited hundreds of years for you, Bethany” I promised your grandmother that I would protect you. I was watching you when you left the Palace. I was there to protect you. “

Princess Bethany slowly digested what the Farmer said. “What is your name?” “Terrence”, the farmer said. “I have to go.” Then Terrence transformed into a huge dragon right before Bethany’s eyes. He headed toward the group of soldiers and the Prince.  A huge tongue of flames engulfed the Prince. He was turned into ashes and destroyed. The surviving soldiers galloped away in fear.

Terrence was surprised to see an expression of love on Bethany’s face. She walked up to him and kissed him. Terrance embraced Bethany with an eternal love. They got on the horse and rode away from the carnage.

First line writing error- "were were wedding" should be "were the wedding" .
Imagery in the beginning is missing because of some questionable word choice or missing descriptive words. Slow down on typing there are allot of errors that look like someone typing in a hurry or carelessly.
i feel like it should be longer. the last 3 paragraphs seem to rush by yes you want that for the situation but there are so few descriptors it ends in a almost unsatisfying way.
