Article two on Psalms 83:17

Psalms 83:17- “May they ever be ashamed and dismayed; may they perish in disgrace.”

                May those that know God be put to shame and be sorrowful; let them fall (lose, flee away, be undone in disgrace). But in the previous verse David says. “Cover their faces with shame so that men will seek your name, O Lord” (Psalms 83:16). Only when we are broken or hurt will we seek the Lord. Only when we are humbled will we than be exalted. Jesus said, “For every one that exaltheth himself shall be abased; and he that humbleth himself shall be exalted” (Luke 8:14). It is the heart that is humble that fears God. This is what God wants. This is what God loves. “The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit, a broken and a contrite heart these, O God, You will not despise” (Psalms 51:17).When we are broken, we need to be whole and only Jesus is that Provider.
