When My Memories Lay My Soul Bare

When My Memories Lay My Soul Bare

A Poem by Neva Flores Smith - Changefulstorm
"

I know the name of the one I see in the mirror and that she is called by an ancient feeling staring into infinity as she pleases.

"

Deep within me I press rewind
and beyond the calm lies choices
that take every part of me
and find the days when my memories
lay my soul bare.
This is when I remember taking fire
when I walked as a child,
always feeling
I was never too young
to know what was mine
even a thousand years ago.

I know the name
of the one I see in the mirror
and that she is called by an ancient feeling
staring into infinity
as she pleases.
She holds on to the sands
of the deepest abyss
until each grain
falls under her trance
and is prepared to fight
every other whisper
other than her own.

Every single day,
I drink the warm tears attempting
to control my smile
while realizing how much I need
to touch the ground
above my shadow.
Soon my mind is filled
with the loneliness of winds.
I know I can move beyond them
and can always keep them
from filling my soul.

Drops of rain come full circle
making ready
to sweep across the crest of my fears
reminding me
I have fought distance and ghosts
on journeys slow to end.
My spirit is not brittle
and I will remain inspired
even when I press rewind
and my memories
lay my soul bare
once again.

Beautiful. When all is said and done, we realize that we are stronger than we once thought. I'm still here, and you're still here. That is quite an accomplishment and the strength speaks for itself!
This is truly an inspirational piece; I need that voice of reason every once and a while also.

I understand the poem. Sometime I feel I had no place to go. I need to escape to my quiet place and re-set my life. I like the internal thoughts and the positive ending. Thank you for the outstanding poem.

It doesn't matter where I read this, or when, or, as in this case -how damp I am (dogs need walks in the rain)) It is stunning, and like the most skilled, you weave your words into worlds. I may have used that exppression before, but when you're this good. It's true. Superb

When I read a piece of yours I always feel as though I see deeply into your soul--and at the end of the read, I always feel renewed--in body and spirit. I love that your work does this--and I hope that in your journey, you feel renewed as well--

A very beautiful poem. We often struggle to maintain our strength. Once we find a way to sustain it, we are capable of overcoming any obstacle. Nice Write
