I can feel the rhythm of yesterday asking questions............
When I am not with you, the earth is still warm from hours that are seen no more. I can feel the rhythm of yesterday asking questions when everything collects on the currents of our own shadows.
I cast last night among the hills where we were young and thoughtless peered above the words Standing before my eyes. Where butterflies lived inside a song Waiting for the world to sing.
Looking to tell a story somehow different from any ever written down, I began unlocking the mysteries of life. I found that the beauty of growing old had kept its secrets well, from my ears.
In the middle of the wonder there must surely lay a seed of hope in the meadows where you and I saw fireflies in the still of night. Perhaps there, we can still hear the echo of its footsteps.
Eternity wanders through my mind seeking praise while the breath of truth shows the world its strong arms. Life awakens to close the door on lessons learned and yet, the earth is still warm.
love and loss ripple through this work with a slow pulse. Wonderfully alive and heartfelt. Itglows with life and love as it takes you to a different world. Unlike many poets, you don't hook and hold people in your world, but allow them to stay. Wonderful doesn't sum it up.
Now that it's cold outside...the pic...your words...it felt like an Indian summer. And yes, even when one door closes...there will be another that opens, we are all eager to unlock the mystery.....hoping there's something special there..... to offer a warm earthly embrace.
your poetry holds a mystical blessing that can only come from one who has held love so close to their Soul that it breathes along their side...nicely written poetry Neva...
This poem reminds me there is no actual absence. Indeed, the spiritual lesson gleaned from romance's rises, falls, restraints is that there IS ONLY ONE PRESENCE.
"The Earth is Still Warm" summons Buddha's touching the ground (no doubt warm w/spiritual bliss) to signal permeative Presence -- in striking contrast to the inner sky search of metaphysics and religious beliefs.
The open-endedness of this piece invites such ruminations.
Inside-out, the dance between lovers might fruitfully be considered rehearsal for the bliss of direct God-Realization, the alpha-omega of all adventuring.
Doors and windows open and close, the sky signals instant vastness, and through it all, indeed, bringing it all simply back home, "The Earth is Still Warm." Beautiful.
