Windowless Door

Windowless Door

A Poem by Neva Flores Smith - Changefulstorm
"

This proud isolation that I hold myself captive within contains no flowers to brighten its view........

"

This self-imposed darkness
I have put in place
Runs like wildly tumbling water
in my veins
Expressing itself as I release in words
from each pore
All of my self-imposed pain

This proud isolation
that I hold myself captive within
Contains no flowers
to brighten its view
Only my infatuation with this sentence
I have imposed
On myself
and these chains I wear too

In fleeting expressions
of freedom
to be found
I stare longingly
at a windowless door
Then tremble in fear and confusion
at the mere thought
Of even walking across the floor

My idealized image
of how my life should be
Holds me captive
here in my own war
I am the only one who can release me
from this space
Untie myself
walk out my windowless door

Wow! This is perhaps my favorite of yours Neva. You deal with a topic rarely seen in your writings and you do it with the same ease and beauty as with those of enlightenment. Fear is indeed crippeling and can rendour us both powerless and imobile. Nice job!

I have felt this way before. Sometimes we are our own prisoners shackling ourselves in chains. Great poem expressed!

Realateable poem, well written and great flow. Fear grips us all from time to time and we just shut down. But we are the only ones that can release ourselves from that gripping fear.

All of us, at some point withdraw.. locking ourselves away, whether it be mentally, emotionally, or spiritually.. myself, I use this time to recharge. Super write!!

Scary poem.. self-isolation can be rewarding at times.. but most of the times instead of easing out your poem, it suppresses them deep within your heart.. that's when it really turns dreadful..well written :)

I love how well this is portrayed. A lot of my writes express the same feelings and I think that you have explained it completely and voiced a resolution all in one write. I absolutely love this work of art. Great pic choice as well. Thanks for sharing..xx

"I am the only one who can release me"

Isn't that the truth! It's good that you recognize it, though. That's the most important step in the process of self-actualization and emancipation! You've said it nicely here, Neva!

Thought getting in it's own way is possibly humanity's worst problem. I think this poem hits the nail on the head.

This was an eloquently riveting mirror to me, as if you had somehow written a key chunk o' reality for me. "Proud isolation" indeed -- a Leo tonality (your Ascendant; my Sun sign). I relate powerfully to this, darlin'. As always, great accompanying image too.

There's also an upside to holding out for your heart's truth.

It's Love that frees us from such quandaries, and Love dissolves the problematics of self and other, the more it is understood as one's deepest nature.
