Presence of Warmth

Presence of Warmth

A Poem by Neva Flores Smith - Changefulstorm
"

Standing on the corner of never say no, my feet are firmly planted in I cannot say I am sorry.

"

I touched the presence of warmth on my pillow
it made me feel sure that I was safe,
went back to sleep smoother than my heartbeat.
Then I awoke to find myself hidden
behind memories of you.

Standing on the corner of never say no,
my feet are firmly planted
in I cannot say I am sorry.
Will I be the rock laying here asking myself
where I found this bitter pill
under my tongue?

Did I sleep while it rained on everything we ever had
until nothing but sand existed
inside all of these silent moments?
When bluebirds sang
about how the stars laugh
was I here drowning
in my pride?

I touched the presence of warmth on my pillow,
then I reached out to yours
felt the cold.
I lay here and listen to the rain
falling smoother than my heartbeat
I have never felt
so alone.

This poem has a lot to say about self preservation. Something about the two pillows stuck with me. The warmth of the pillow was almost like the connection between self and inner self. It felt so territorial to me for some reason. I couldn't get over it. The heart under the hardened exterior seemed to surface in the end. This is dynamic and has an amazing amount of things going. Its a cornucopia of emotion.

this is really moving, the absence of a loved one, or the imagination of longing for a love that is not truly there, nice write Neva...

You are a person with a lot say. A true rare gift with a gentle heart a treasure with words that speak from a page. Nicely done.

I thought in the opening stanza it was going to be a love poem..well I suppose it is of sorts, as you develop the picture through each verse the pain of loss and stubbornness comes through..it's hard to forgive sometimes but healing of self starts with forgiveness..beautifully emotive words.

There are so many sad thoughts running through this, the reader had to pause to shake off memories of past. Your poetry can be heart-breaking, full of emotions, this is no exception. Feeling alone can empty the heart.

Are we calling all into question in this one Neva? Yearning, loneliness?

The words were powerful and strong. I like the strong statements and the emotion in the poem.
"Then I awoke to find myself hidden
behind memories of you. "
Easy to hide behind sweet memories. Hard to face the truth. Thank you for a excellent poem.

Reached out to my heart and touched it so profoundly. Flowed so smooth, serene like a slow sad song. Great use of imagery as well. All in all, a wonderful poem.
