Forever is a mystery that lets you cultivate its reasons as you age...........
When running through ideas that I defend sometimes my emotions Hear footsteps that are only noticed within my hours Sliding in between what I know in life to be nailed to a stake And what lies miles away desperately trying To be heard and found
Within stories told in dark passages there lie many simple questions Whose answers would break your tender heart if told Yet what could cause your feet to become a victim of stillness Could also make them wander into places of pain Filled with indifference
Forever is a mystery that lets you cultivate its reasons as you age Embracing our empty glasses with everything, we are Until we want to escape into what is already gone once again As the ground beneath our feet becomes contemptible Even as we see it change
I am left breathless, as today becomes a memory I hold in fame As those footsteps travel distances I do not understand I cry as I find I still defend those ideas I am running through Because what I thought was nailed to a stake Has now slipped loose
If forever is a mystery; not-forever may be a bigger one.
One consistent thing about changing times and changing values, is that most people don't start moving--in any direction--until they're forced to. Humans certainly are comfortable with what's familiar, with what they perceive to be nailed down.
These issues and many more does Neva regularly weave into her soaring accounts of deep yearnings,
Thank you, Neva.
Time and change will always go hand in hand, what we know to be true today will easily become false tomorrow if we so chose to change and grow in spirit and knowledge. We can get stuck in the past and never grow and thus never learn or expand our own truth and to me that is when life begins to die.
It's true that we don't always know truth because it would break our hearts...I would suggest breaking up your lines a little bit more, so it flows more and so that it's not so heavy on the brain to digest. If you cut each line in half that should do well, but never do anything that you think will destroy the poem, either
Very deep. My favorite is the last stanza for sure. What we once thought was stationary in our lives seem to just slip away... All we can do is move on and stay strong. This really spoke to me because I can relate to it, and I'm still young!
"Because what I thought was nailed to a stake...Has now slipped loose".. That ends it so well.. with life's changes we are so challenge in every aspect of who we are and it hurts to remove yourself from the nailed stake and move forward.. A very deep and soulful write Neva.. I really can relate to this..xx
Truly a beautifully constructed poem, breath-taking imagery and an easy flow from screen to lips as I read it aloud. I love how you tie the beginning and ending together so well. Excellent job!
