Dark and Bright

Dark and Bright

A Poem by Neva Flores Smith - Changefulstorm
"

My forever is tossed in dark and bright.............

"

My forever is tossed in dark and bright
Waiting for you and immortality
But who would breathe in heaven
Then plunge into the deep
Should I look beyond
Or empty all my secret pain
Into all I sought to keep

The frozen earth once caught me smiling
At times when I liked it there
In any situation when I should be
Hurt and trembling
If I am cold, I paint on a smile
Put my life into the sun
Start reassembling

Sometimes I sit and stare at thoughtlessness
Then watch my day rewinding
Wonder why my forever is dark and bright
Words of comfort I refuse
I just watch them twirl and float
Surely letting nothing stain
All that is confused

I am now absorbing all the dark and bright
The wind blows into my forever
A raging wildfire breathes in heaven
Will I plunge into the deep
Or will I look beyond
To empty all my secret pain
I can no longer keep

I get this deeply. You capture both sides of life,
"Will I plunge into the deep
Orwill I look beyond"
This is the truest statement to life; we just move on in uncertainty and hope we end up somewhere nice, whether by luck or chance. I'm almost reminded of that poem from Ecclesiaties: the one Peter, Paul and Mary did as a folk song in the 60's. You capture those different moments of happiness and sadness how they truely are, upredictable. I love everything you write!

This, to me, sounds like an elegy. Beautifully written capturing the doubts and regrets of life and the hopefulness with which a different realm is looked upon. It doesn't have to be of physical death, it could just be the beginning of something new in life. I really love:
"My forever is tossed in dark and bright
Waiting for you and immortality
But who would breathe in heaven
Then plunge into the deep
Should I look beyond
Or empty all my secret pain
Into all I sought to keep"

The first stanza is amazing. The uncertainty shows and so does the hurt.
I can relate in a big sense to this stanza. Great work.

You've made me wonder, Neva, if "secret pain" isn't precious--perhaps, our most defining element.
But then, how can we ever become our best selves, if we do not somehow transcend that pain?--the sensibilities of a lesser being.
Clearly, the unique beauty you create is also meant to instruct..

I agree with Derek..the line that got me was the same.. Either way if we plunge into the deep or look beyond for the answers the outcome will most likely be the same..
Destiny has a way of taking control :) xx Great write Neva..xx

We all have a good and bad side... and even when you try and let the good reign sometimes the bad happens cause we are human... I can relat to this piece.
