Under layers of faces there exist journeys held in silence
Under layers of faces there exist journeys held in silence
Constantly unraveling inside as heart strings
Pulled to the surface they can quickly shift these layers
Into smiles, tears or a burning anger not predicted
Instantly changing everything
Memories held within the layers of faces never disappear
What the heart has gazed upon remains
Deeply engraved in the tender fibers of our souls
As burning embers buried under time's ash
Sparked......becomes a flame
What is banished often still exists under these layers
Inside the spirit of all our heart strings
Our journeys may leave vivid scars held in silence
But they will also leave lessons in layers
Used to change everything
it is said that a person had three main masks: one to be seen by everybody, one to be seen by only the closest friends, and one to be known only by that person themselves. what i most loved about this poem is the fact that you somehow surprised the moment of switching masks. i like the repeating of "changing/change everything" as if going back to the point of origin. and the first line is brilliantly chosen - one simply cannot stop reading this poem after it.
As burning embers buried under time's ash... such a heartfelt line. Your poetry has such spirit behind it. You sum up the scars of one's past, lying in layers under one's face, without rambling on or being confusing. Very good job.
This work has layers, also. Stunningly clear, yet with subtleties that alter one's thinking, if they have the stomach for self examination. The depth of thought put into this work is virtually peerless. I am so glad i experienced this. Thank you!
"What the heart has gazed upon remains". Incredibly astute and beautiful line. It is true. What the ashes of time have left behind still often holds the heat of a coal ready to ignite. Our past is who we are and we have the power to make it into what we will, if we are strong enough. This is lovely.
