Unravel the Night

Unravel the Night

A Poem by Neva Flores Smith - Changefulstorm
"

tell me what is real among the promises we have made and why the blood running through our veins speaks of us as our hearts are seduced.

"

Unravel the night as it nods off

to become a wall of darkness

until the sun looks into your eyes

once again

and you feel the pain of truth.

Then tell me what is real

among the promises we have made

and why the blood running through our veins

speaks of us,

as our hearts are seduced.

How can we continue to live on the edge

where each breath we take

challenges our bodies to become

victoriously in control?

When our hearts' wish to speak

of the need to see each other's face

and how love's flame burns

within our eyes then moves

inward to the depth

of our souls.

I love the progression that you've captured in this piece- you start with a cute, children's bedtime type of feeling with innocent nighttime words like "nods." Then you grow up. You start playing with words like "seduced." I like it! It shows the agelessness of love. Thank you for sharing!

There is certainly a lot of depth within this. Love can be so powerful with its pangs to the soul that there's simply no escaping its presence. It flows undeniably through each heart leaving a lasting impression, a need, and a resolution to be satiated.

"Love hurts" as someone once sang, and this poem to me shares the lament of one who won't deny the truth of her feelings any longer. There is a hint to me that the other party is reluctant to jump in with both feet due to a binding tie to someone else. Perhaps a wife? A powerful statement in two stanzas. Nice job Neva.

You're welcome. :)
Beautiful poem. Our bodies seem to me to be constantly challenging our spirits because our bodies are of an animal nature and our spirits are elevated far beyond that, transcending the natural to the portal of the divine. If we could learn to let our spirits and our conscience be our guide we would suffer far less in the physical world I think...just my rambling thoughts. I also LOVE the artwork you chose to accompany this piece. It's really quite stunning.

Thank you so much Ahmad. XX
We are so easily seduced by the very thing that brings us hope and pleasure. They say let our hearts do the talking, but if the heart is human...and humans are fallible...then we were destined to fail. Astounding truth in your words Neva.

That was beautiful, I love the way I actually had to reread to maintain the meaning (or what I thought it was) I love this style of writing, it's so inspiring! I would love if you could read some of mine for feedback, because this is the exact way I'd love to come across!
